Bio: About the Ombuds
Doc Hawley joined the Oconee campus in August 2004. She is director of Personal Counseling and Wellness for that campus. She teaches one course per semester online, "Introduction to Social Work." She is a trained mediator, a therapist in private practice, and an evening psychotherapist at a local hospital.
Previous positions have included associate professor at Brenau University (2002-2004), director of public service and outreach and associate professor (public service faculty) at the University of Georgia (1993-2000), and assistant professor at Northern Arizona University (1991-1993).
Doc Hawley has a doctorate in mass communication and master's degrees in mass communication and social work from the University of Georgia.
Working with individuals to improve the quality of life is Doc's passion. She recognizes and respects their strengths and perspectives when collaborating to find solutions to challenges. Conflict is inherent in life; an objective ombud can help to navigate conflict more easily and successfully.
