Hispanic Legacy Scholars Program
Purpose

To present Hispanic students at GSC with opportunities for leadership development, peer interaction, and personal and professional development

Learning Outcomes
  • Develop an understanding of themselves as future leaders in their communities
  • Communicate with people who are from diverse backgrounds
  • Develop leadership skills to assist in future academic and professional endeavors
Participation Requirements

Students are chosen to participate in the program based on three criteria. Students must be

  • Of Hispanic heritage
  • At a B grade point average or above (3.0/4.0)
  • A U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen
  • Eligible for federal financial aid (must have completed the FAFSA)
  • Enrolled full-time at GSC
Student Committment

Students who would like to participate in the program must be able to complete the following:

  • Attend the ODIIR New Student Welcome in August
  • Attend three semester meetings with the Coordinator for Hispanic Leadership Development
  • Participate in the Leadership Development Series
  • Participate in the Latino Student Association (LSA)
  • Maintain a 2.5/4.0 grade point average
Student Incentives

Students who are chosen to participate in the program will be given a scholarship in the amount of $1000 ($500/semester). In addition, at the end of the academic year students who successfully complete the program will be presented with a certificate of completion.
