The L.A. Waters scholarship was established in 2004 by Gainesville State College employees in honor of the late Mr. Leander (Lee) Allen Waters, husband of former GSC Professor Theresa Dove-Waters. Mr. Waters was a supporter of Gainesville State College in many ways. He attended most of the cultural events and just before his death he was taking a golf class at the college. Mr. Waters was a supporter of education, a respected citizen of the Gainesville Community, and served as a mentor to African American high school males.
