We are currently seeking proposals for the 5th annual Lead Like Laker Student Leadership Conference:
Leading for Change: Explore. Discover. Evolve.
Saturday, October 13th
in the Nesbitt-Academic 4 Building
GSC’s Student Leadership Conference is designed to both broaden students’ understanding of leadership and help them recognize the personal characteristics and group dynamics that contribute to successful student organizations. Throughout the day, conference participants will have the opportunity to attend three 45-minute presentations, each focused on one of the following three sub-themes: diversity, personal development, and transitions.
Personal Development (Explore)
Session Learning Outcome:
Students will list two strategies they can employ to improve their leadership skills.
Sample Session Topics:
· Understanding who you are as an individual, student, or leader and discovering your role in life
· Determining and using your leadership strengths
· Becoming an authentic leader
· ‘Golden’ rules of leadership
Diversity (Discover)
Session Learning Outcome:
Students will be able to define diversity as it relates to leadership and explain why it is important to consider it.
Sample Session Topics:
· Expand your cultural awareness
· Facilitating dialogues on diversity
· Safe collaboration—creating an environment that values all group contributions (diversity of thought/ideas)
· Understanding group dynamics
Transitions (Evolve)
Session Learning Outcome:
Students will list one way they can positively affect change within themselves and their organization.
Sample Session Topics:
· Leading during a tough transition
· Conflict management
· Creating positive change
· Defining and communicating your vision
Our goal is to include at least five session options within each breakout category. Please submit your program idea, including the title, a brief description of your session, and your contact information. Please note that your audience will include approximately 25 students.
