English Club
Advisor: Dottie Blais, Anita Turlington
The English Club exists to increase the
knowledge and appreciation of literature and
to discover and develop literary talent at
Gainesville College outside of the
classroom. The club produces the annual
essay anthology Hoi Polloi and the
creative arts magazine CHESTATEE REVIEW.
The club sponsors readings by nationally and
internationally recognized writers, attends
and participates in literary and creative
writing conferences, sponsors the Annual
Gainesville College Writing Contest, and
sponsors with the Humanities Division the
annual Lanier Writers' Conference. Any
student, regardless of major, is welcome to
participate.
Gainesville College Writing Contest
Since 1988 the English Club has sponsored an
annual writing contest for Gainesville
College Students. Cash prizes are given in
the following categories: short story,
informal essay, formal essay, and poetry.
Deadline for submission is the last day of
fall classes, at noon. Winners are announced
at the Lanier Writers' Conference. The first
and second place winners in each category
are submitted to the Southern Literary
Festival Association annual contest.

Oconee community.
Southern Literary
Festival Association
