Instructions for Meeting the Georgia Government Legislative Requirement
The Georgia state legislature requires that all students attending a University System of Georgia institution demonstrate an understanding of Georgia state government. If a student transfers into GSC and has not fulfilled this requirement at another USG institution, the student can meet this requirement by passing the American Government or Georgia State and Local Government courses available at Gainesville State College or by taking the Georgia constitution exam.
The exam is electronic, given through eLearning, and consists of 50 multiple choice questions based on the League of Women Voter’s Book on Georgia state government.
This book can be purchased at the GSC bookstore.
A student must achieve a minimum passing grade of 60% to fulfill the requirement.
The student may take the test as many times as is necessary within the semester to get a passing grade.
This Georgia state government requirement must be satisfied in order to graduate from GSC. Completing the requirement at GSC also means that the requirement is met for other University System schools.
Grades for the Georgia Government Exam will be posted on a student’s transcript by the Registrar approximately one week after the end of the semester.
Students should be aware that the GSC computer system is occasionally offline for routine maintenance or other problems. Students are responsible for passing the exam regardless of these types of service interruptions.
When prepared to take the exam, students must notify Dr. Kathleen Woodward at
kwoodward@gsc.edu that s(he) is ready to take the exam.
Dr. Woodward will provide the student with access to the electronic exam.
If there are further questions regarding the exam, e-mail Dr. Woodward at the address noted above.
